Patient accepts $2,500 package to attend classes
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Michigan – May 18, 2010 – The Medical Marijuana Academy is providing financial aid to former Wal-Mart employee Joseph Casias for coursework at their campus in Commerce Twp., MI. Casias, a cancer patient who was fired over prescription marijuana use, will begin training in June, 2010 to become a certified medical marijuana grower and caregiver.
The $2,500 scholarship package includes transportation, hotel, living expenses and growing room equipment, along with classroom training at no cost.
Mr. Casias used marijuana as prescribed by his doctor to treat severe pain caused by an inoperable brain tumor and sinus cancer. Though his actions were in accordance with Michigan law, he was fired by a Battle Creek Wal-Mart, based on the company’s own strict drug screening policy. Casias, who had previously earned Wal-Mart associate of the year honors, says he never used marijuana in the workplace or before reporting to work.
Casias enrolled in the Medical Marijuana Academy in search of new opportunities after the dismissal resulted in financial hardship for his family. The loss of employee health coverage was of particular concern to the father of two, who now faces mounting medical bills related to his illness.
“I would like to thank the Medical Marijuana Academy for this opportunity to become self-sufficient,” said Casias, voicing his gratitude for the financial aid. “God bless.”
A Medical Marijuana Academy spokesperson says the institution is “pleased to help someone who was treated unfairly in the face of very difficult circumstances.” The Medical Marijuana Academy also plans to continue providing financial aid to qualified individuals in need on a monthly basis.
The Medical Marijuana Academy offers specialized instruction for medical marijuana patients and caregivers operating under Michigan law. Their 7,500 sq. ft. campus in Commerce Township, MI includes both classrooms and lab facilities.

I have been fighting for legalization for years and I’m so proud to be part of the movement…Because of my history of attending various Hemp festivals in both Wisconson and being part of the original Vandelia Michigan Rainbow Farms advocate it brings me great joy and honor to say I recently received my medical marijuana licence….I really am interested in attending your workshops but I’am going through financial difficulties at the time due to failing a drug test at a job interview…Please let me know what kind of financial arragements or aid you could offer to a single mom-I would so appreciate it…I have worked for 20 years in customer service and have become quite the pro at it…
Thanks-Deana Boltz
