About the Medical Marijuana Academy

Faculty

The Academy provides training by real-world professionals with expertise in every aspect of medical marijuana and with proven track records in the business community. Our faculty is comprised of world-class growers, horticulturalists, botanists, academics, lawyers and physicians with over 50 years combined experience teaching and growing marijuana.

Todd Alton – Horticulture and Cooking Professor

Todd Alton is a botanist, professional chef and expert on organic growing and growing cannabis in soil.  Upon graduating from Northern Michigan University with his B.S. in Botany, Mr. Alton worked with the U.S. Forest Service in a native Michigan flora breeding program while also conducting independent research on Gibberellic Acid a now-popular plant growth hormone.  Mr. Alton spent over 6 years as the executive chef at the Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Colorado and has also worked as a private chef for the rich and famous. Mr. Alton has over 12 years of cannabis cultivation experience with an emphasis on all organic growing.

Clayton Hall – Horticulture and Cooking/Concentrate Professor

Clayton Hall is an expert in cannabis horticulture, edibles, and concentrates.  Mr. Hall has over thirteen years experience growing in nearly all mediums, with expertise in soil, aeroponics and hydroponics.  Mr. Hall owned and operated his own holistic health center, making him very aware of the different health benefits of Medical Marijuana.  Mr. Hall’s experience goes far beyond just growing; he is well versed in cooking with cannabis and the creation of cannabis concentrates.  He is a member of numerous Michigan compassion clubs, and was one of the first patients in the State of Michigan to obtain his registered Medical Marijuana Patient card.  In addition to his teaching obligations, Mr. Hall continues to be very active in the Medical Marijuana community.

David Delfosse – Horticulture and Cooking Professor

Mr. Delfosse graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry. There, he worked in establishing a mutant germline of Wisconsin Fast Plants for classical genetic demonstration purposes in classrooms. He has applied his knowledge of genetics in cannabis breeding. His cultivation experience includes indoor soil and organic outdoor methods as he is also well-versed in various extraction methods and making edibles.

Derek Norman – CEO and Horticulture and Concentrates Professor

Derek Norman is educated through the University of Arizona in Business and Communication, and is the founder of the Medical Marijuana Academy.  He is a registered Medical Marijuana Patient with the State of Michigan.  Mr. Norman has over five years soil and hydroponic growing experience, with a focus on Medical Marijuana concentrates.  Mr. Norman is also a nationally published author; his body of work includes an article in Glass Aficionado detailing functional glass art.  He has been highly involved in the online cannabis community since 2002, and continues to work in all aspects of Medical Marijuana, both online and now in the State of Michigan.

Edward P. Maloney, M.S. – Educational Director

With his background as a highly successful business owner in the medical industry, Mr. Maloney has lectured for the Nuclear Medical Society and the National Association of Mold Professionals. He has taught students from all 50 states, Canada, England, France and Dubai.  He has taught members of all branches of the United States Military, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Reserve Bank, the U.S. Veterans Administration Healthcare System and the Justice Department.

Gary R. Trzaskos – Business Instructor

Mr. Trzaskos was awarded his B.A. degree (with honors) from Michigan State University in 1976, his J.D. in Corporate and Commercial Law from Wayne State University in 1978, and his L.L.M. in Taxation from Wayne State University in 1984. He was admitted to the Michigan State Bar in 1979.

Rob Tuttle  – Security Professor

Security expert Rob Tuttle obtained his B.S. in Computer Information Systems and Associates in Computer Networking from Baker College, where he remained on the Dean’s List while attending.  Mr. Tuttle currently owns and operates Tuttle Security Services, a licensed security alarm agency for the State of Michigan.  With over ten years experience in the field of security systems, particularly home invasions, Mr. Tuttle is an expert on teaching students how to protect not only their grow room and medicine, but also themselves and their families from any security risk.  As a registered Medical Marijuana Patient with the State of Michigan, Mr. Tuttle has a firm understanding of the importance of security in your home and garden.

Paul C. Youngs – Legal Professor

Attorney Paul C. Youngs obtained his license to practice law in Michigan in 1998, after graduating cum laude from the University of Detroit Mercy Law School.  Mr. Youngs obtained a Masters Degree in Accounting from the University of Florida, and a Bachelors Degree in Finance from Eastern Michigan University.  Mr. Youngs’ primary practice is in criminal defense.  Mr. Youngs is a member of the Michigan chapter of NORML (National Organization for the Reformation of Marijuana Laws), and is versed in the emerging area of law surrounding Michigan’s Medical Marijuana Act.  Mr. Youngs is a member of the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan, and is a three time graduate of CDAM’s trial advocacy college.
